Devotional PAUSE FOR GRIM REAPER

“Thank You Father for this, another week.” I found myself praying this morning when I looked at my swollen legs and knew I should’ve had a coronary a long time ago. I was living on borrowed time.

As always, my mind began seeing my Heavenly Father stop the Grim Reaper deciding to end my life with a heart attack, telling him, “Wait; I want this one to live a little bit longer.”

Wait? The Grim Reaper must’ve looked at him with questioning eyes—usually, humans don’t do much worthwhile on earth. Many of God’s children manage to hurt others in sibling rivalries.

Those that don’t even claim to belong to Him lift their eyebrows at these antics and recently have lost much regard for that family. It seems more and more, there is bold expression of open hostility against God.

Wouldn’t the Creator much rather the Grim Reaper did his work quickly: either take away those who flagrantly oppose Him, or send Home those who actually cause God’s Name to be belittled the longer they stay around?

But what was this: the Sovereign, Mighty One lifted His Hand, saying, “I want this one around a little bit longer”? Who knows what went through His mind. The hooded character knew better than to ask questions; he just did as he was told.

After all, the other day—God had given the Grim Reaper free hand to put in his sickle, and what a shock it had been then: the stalk he saw he would reap was the thirty-year-old human form of the Mighty One’s True Son!

The Great, One has His reasons, but I’ll just do my job as He tells me without asking Him to explain Himself, thought the Reaper, as he hoisted his sickle and slunk off into the shadows. But in a little while I’ll be back. I always have to come back when He calls.
