Dust. Not one human being can take a speck of “worthless” dust; yank down the temperature until moisture forms crystal lace design all around it; cause particles like this to float to earth softly, beautifully, harmlessly; somehow warmly blanketing it in a layer of something that is temporarily fluffy than mushy than crunchy than glistening and hard yet melts away later, leaving behind the gift of earth’s needed water.
Dust. Snow. The genius, wisdom, quiet beauty and love of God in meeting need. A small, constant evidence of His faithfulness. Yesterday, today, and forever, this God, my God, is the same. How good it is to be His.
I realized I did not write anything about “me” that had accompanied the above observations, and I decided to attach them. Dust, often a small, persistent irritation—can make a person want to scream, cry, lose control. But a Heavenly Father whispers, “Trust Me with it,” and it is amazing what He can do when we shut up, obey Him, and watch Him do things we would never think of or could do if we tried.
What unregenerate souls do not realize: our greatest need is to be like Him; our heart’s gut-joys come when we find ourselves becoming like Christ…yes, our Father often moulds us into that crystalline image around a particle of dust!
If God can make something so beautiful with natural dust, He could surely do so for me, I felt.
My thoughts were actually complete and ended once there; the following is detailed, so can or does not have to be read to be complete. I had thoughts about the ways life works for God’s child—again, these are metaphorical “fun” comparisons, like a lot of the stuff I write, no claim to concrete truth (this is actually a pet peeve of mine—many symbolize, allegorize the Bible instead of obey it).
In order for moisture crystals to form, it had to get freezing cold. It’s rare to hear Christians talking about times of great spiritual growth coming in times of comfort and ease. Distress often results in getting to knowing God we would have gotten in no other way. Adversity is not necessarily evidence of God’s displeasure in the Christian. Satan will leave alone those giving him no trouble but afflicts those opposing him.
Crystals too, are formed in stillness. If you disturb the water, large crystals can’t form. Doesn’t this say something about the Father wanting us wait on Him, not trying to work on finding a solution to the problems we face? Obedient resting is being “proactive”. Willful restlessness is not.
