Once I heard an illustration that if you take a warm coal and set it off by itself, it would soon grow cold. It was meant to show that Christianity was never meant to be lived out alone but with others
The illustration merely shows the heat was the “glow” taken from other Christians—it only proves it when it grows cold if left by itself. If our source of joy and is God the Father as many Christians claim, not from the gathering of others, then even after solitary confinement of 20 years, that “coal” should not grow cold.
In fact, jailers should wonder why the glowing does not weaken!
Perhaps, if they were to look into that prison cell, they would see it was not an ember of inanimate rock that got thrown in there, but a fly that possessed a living light deep inside it all its own.
Those fireflies are known to be real pests, the jailer has heard, but they sure are pretty when they glow in the dark.
