"of the Lamb slain" (Rev. 13:8)
Would people look to the Lamb of God? There are people who talk about "believing in God" or "a man of faith" or of "believing, you gotta keep on trusting," but...you rarely hear of people who are in love with, who are grateful for JESUS, who bled, was willing to be shamed in our place! No wonder Christianity is so weak today. And national citizenship means very little to most people; there is no way they would die for the president of their country!
A tourist to that country heard from every person in that land: he LOVED THE KING. He wasn't just glad to be its citizen. Isn't that vital to the strength of any conviction: loving a PERSON?
You can't just believe fate, trust metaphysical powers, and practice morality/religion...then really think that's going to hold any water when things get rough. No way.
Yesterday, I heard the retelling of a Bible story of a person who didn't just own a set of noble principles, but loved the Lord Jesus, and ended up radically breaking a container of high-end perfume to pour out on Jesus' head.
In the very next chapter, one of those criticizing believers sells Jesus for 30 pieces of silver -- just the price of one slave. An intentional insult meant to point to the contrast. HE IS NOT WORTH 300 DENARIUS, it was clearly implied.
300 Denarius? Heaven knows Jesus is worthy of oh so much more! He had to be to be broken and poured out to pay for the souls of the world as He did!
